5th ERASMUS+INTERNATIONAL STAFF WEEK
With great pleasure we share with you that our Unesco Chair Holder Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados, Director of the "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies & Services" Laboratory at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, participated as a speaker at the 5th International Erasmus+ Staff Week on "INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THROUGH EUROPEAN COOPERATION, RESEARCH, AND INNOVATION," which took place from June 12th to June 16th 2023 at the University of Piraeus, Greece.
In his presentation, Professor D.D. Vergados showcased the subject and the mission of the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility & Utilization of Cultural Resources," which inter alia aims to foster knowledge and advance research on smart cities and settlements, sustainable urban mobility, while enhancing cultural heritage and the peri-urban environment, which are integral elements of the transformation of creative cities and communities in the 21st century. The Chair is fully aligned with the key priorities of the UNESCO Chairs Programme, while is strengthening cooperation with UNESCO and the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO.
During the event, Professor D.D. Vergados emphasized on the Chair's role in providing educational and advisory contributions that are aligned with the values and objectives of UNESCO as well as the targets of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (UN, Agenda 2030). He also shared the plan of activities and initiatives he envisions and prepares for the year 2023, underscoring the Chair's commitment to promote significant changes in the fields of education, research and innovation.
