Christos-Nikolaos Anagnostopoulos is a Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (i-lab.aegean.gr) at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication at the University of the Aegean since 2006. The laboratory conducts research and development in the field of Digital Cultural Heritage, using modern technologies for documentation, digitization, digital restoration, and promotion of cultural assets.
He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. He has extensive experience in projects related to the management and promotion of cultural and religious heritage, including printed and audiovisual content. He has also been involved in the digitization, documentation, and visualization of small-scale and large-scale monuments, as well as archaeological research, using new technologies such as aerial and terrestrial scanning, projection, and mixed reality, contributing to their preservation, promotion, and digital reconstruction.
His work includes digitizing material and intangible church heritage using modern methods and tools such as portable 3D scanners, photogrammetry, and high-resolution photography. He has also been involved in the design and mapping of cultural/touristic routes, digital storytelling, personalized user experiences, and serious games.
As part of these projects, he has authored over 200 scientific publications in international conferences and reputable journals. Since 2003, he has taught numerous courses on Digital Culture at the undergraduate level and in postgraduate programs such as the M.Sc. in "Cultural Informatics" (University of the Aegean), "Digital Culture" (University of Piraeus), and "Monument Management" (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). Since 2020, he has been recognized as one of the top 2% most influential researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing (Stanford University, Elsevier) based on the citations his work has received.
