The UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion" and the Postgraduate Programme (MSc) "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies" at TRAVEL WEST FORUM 2025

Invited Speaker at the TRAVEL WEST FORUM 2025 was Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados of the University of Piraeus, UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources", Director of the Postgraduate Studies Programme (P. Director of the "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies", as well as Director of the Laboratory "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies and Services".

The TRAVEL WEST FORUM 2025 was held on Friday 28 March 2025 in Patras, for the second consecutive year, aiming to highlight the tourism potential of Western Greece. The conference was attended by distinguished speakers from the fields of tourism, politics, economy, entrepreneurship, innovation and culture.

Mr. Vergados presented the vision and actions of the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources", for Creative, Smart and Sustainable Cities and Regions, as well as the connection of the Chair with the Postgraduate Studies Programme (MSc) "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies" of the University of Piraeus. In his speech, he focused on key issues related to tourism, culture and sustainable urban mobility, emphasizing the crucial role of technology in shaping the cities of the future. Particular emphasis was placed on the integration of digital technologies as a key tool for upgrading the quality of life and creating participatory, "smart" and sustainable, human-centred cities. The Professor highlighted examples that open up new paths for development, using contemporary challenges as an opportunity for positive transformation.

The UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion" actively supports initiatives that enhance sustainability, local development, culture, putting people and their quality of life at the centre.

The conference was a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration, organized by thebest.gr.
