The MSc Program "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies" of the Department of Informatics at the University of Piraeus actively participated in the international NASA Space Apps Challenge 2019, held in Piraeus from October 19 to 21, 2019.
The event was organized by the Greek NewSpace Society (the Greek Chapter of the National Space Society), with the institutional support of the MSc program, among others. As part of this initiative, postgraduate students joined multidisciplinary teams, utilizing NASA’s open data to develop innovative solutions for challenges facing Earth and Space.
The event schedule included:
Data Bootcamp at the University of Piraeus (Oct 18, 2019)
24-hour Hackathon at the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) facilities (Oct 19–20, 2019)
Pitching presentations and awards ceremony (Oct 21, 2019)
A total of 171 participants gathered in Piraeus, with 16 teams presenting their projects during the competitive phase. Among them was the team "MeMo – Cultural Heritage Capsule," featuring students from the MSc program who contributed significantly to the development and presentation of their proposal within the global environment of the NASA Space Apps Challenge.
Participation in this challenge aligns with the MSc program's strategy to:
Enhance experiential and collaborative learning.
