Guest Lecture by Mr. Vasilapostolos Ouranis at the MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies
On Thursday, May 23, 2019, as part of the course "Advanced Media and Applications in Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Culture" within the MSc program "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies" at the University of Piraeus, a guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Vasilapostolos Ouranis, co-founder and COO of MAGOS, and co-founder of the Greek New Space Society.
During the presentation, he analyzed the innovative work of MAGOS, centered around finger hand-tracking technology using a specialized "smart" glove. The MAGOS system stands as the only motion-capture solution for fingers that provides clinically actionable data, allowing healthcare professionals to perform immediate and objective assessments of hand and finger rehabilitation progress.
Furthermore, the applications of this technology across multiple fields were presented:
-
Engineering & Telerobotics: Remote control and interaction with robotic systems.
-
Education: Experiential learning through natural interaction.
-
Gaming: Immersive experiences with natural motion capture.
-
Healthcare & Rehabilitation: Monitoring and evaluating recovery using clinical data.
The lecture clearly highlighted the interconnection between advanced sensor technologies, IoT, human-computer interaction (HCI), and applied innovation—elements directly relevant to the core curriculum of the Master’s program.
This presentation provided students with the opportunity to understand how a technological concept is transformed into a high-value commercial product, linking research and entrepreneurship with applications in digital culture and smart technologies.
