Guest Lecture by Dimitris Papastergiou: Smart Trikala and Digital Governance in Local Government

As part of the course "Sustainable Cultural Development and ESG for Digital Cities" within the MSc program "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies," a guest lecture was held on January 24, 2019, featuring Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, then Mayor of Trikala.

During the presentation, the example of Smart Trikala—one of Greece's most recognized smart city initiatives—was showcased. Special emphasis was placed on the development of digital infrastructure, the utilization of innovative technologies, and the gradual transition of local government toward a modern model of digital governance.

The discussion highlighted the administrative, organizational, and technological challenges accompanying a municipality's digital transformation, as well as the importance of a strategic approach in shaping sustainable and human-centric digital cities.

The lecture served as an essential bridge between theoretical knowledge and applied policy practice, reinforcing the interdisciplinary character of the Master's program.
