Speech by Ms Tonia Petrovits Senior Public Relations Manager at Huawei

In the context of the course "Sustainable Cultural Development and ESG for Digital Cities" of the MSc in Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Technologies of the University of Piraeus, we had the honor to welcome Tonia Petrovits - Senior Public Relations Manager at Huawei as our main guest. She was joined by the startup PROBOTEK, with whom Huawei has a strategic partnership in the field of environmental protection (fire detection - forest fire safety).

During the lecture, critical issues were presented:

Investment & Supply Chain in Greece: Tonia Petrovits highlighted the role of Greece as Huawei's strategic hub for Europe and North Africa, through the creation of the Europe Transfer Warehouse.

The contribution of this new infrastructure in enhancing #digital #transportation & #logistics and the creation of new jobs was highlighted.
Huawei's plan to continue diversifying its services (software-centric & hardware-centric) to maximize resilience and promote innovation was presented.

The importance of #5G, #IoT and #AI artificial intelligence was highlighted as key tools for the digital transformation of enterprises and public organizations.

Tonia Petrovits discussed how Huawei #ICTAcademy "builds bridges" between universities and the market, training thousands of students in cutting-edge areas (5G, AI, Cloud, Big Data). More than 10 Greek universities are already participating in the program, while more than 600 students have benefited so far.

Sustainable Development & Environmental Protection: Huawei presented initiatives that support sustainable development in Europe, including actions related to environmental protection, green energy and smart infrastructure.

In the same context, PROBOTEK reported on its innovative IoD (Internet of Drones) platform and the fire detection applications it is developing, highlighting the importance of technology in preventing and responding to natural disasters.

Tonia Petrovits has extensive experience in strategic communication, crisis management and corporate social responsibility, having served in leadership positions in multinational companies. Today, as Senior Public Relations Manager at Huawei, she combines her practical knowledge with her academic background (BA in English Literature from Deree, MA in International & European Area Studies from the University of Surrey) to promote innovative actions, both in Greece and internationally.

Tonia Petrovits' presence and Huawei's strategic partnership with PROBOTEK highlighted how technology, innovation and partnerships between large multinationals and start-ups can contribute substantially to sustainable development and the creation of smart digital cities.
