Guest Speaker Alice Korovessi: "From Civil Society to Policymaking: How NGOs Influence Energy and Climate Policies in Europe"

In the context of the course "Sustainable Cultural Development and ESG for Digital Cities", of the Master's Degree in Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Technologies, we had the special honor to host and listen in person and online on Wednesday 18/2/2026 to Alice Korovesi, MBA, CEO of #INZEB, Head of the #EUClimatePact Coordination Group in #Greece and of the Greek hub of the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub.

Topic of Speech: "From civil society to policymaking: how NGOs influence energy and climate policies in Europe". The lecture highlighted the transition of Non-Governmental Organizations from awareness-raising and social pressure bodies to active policy actors in the energy and climate sector. Particular emphasis was placed on how evidence, applied research and field experience are translated into concrete policy proposals, both at national and European level.

  • Policy Cycle: Intervention in planning, consultation and implementation stages.
  • European Context: The role of institutions and the Europeanization of policy.
  • Challenges: Funding, organizational capacity, limited political space.
  • Conditions for Influence: Strategic coherence, evidence and partnerships.
Short Biography:
Alice Korovesi is the co-founder and CEO of INZEB, a non-profit organization active since 2014 in the fields of energy, climate policy and applied research. Since October 2023, she has been the National Coordinator of the EU Climate Pact in Greece, while since May 2025, she has been coordinating the Greek node of the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub.
