On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 18:30 - 21:00, the guests of the MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies", of the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus, are Maria Boura, Ericsson's Manager for the Company's Relations with Government Officials, Regulatory Authorities & Branch Bodies, and Innovation, Dimitrios Soudris, NTUA professor and Dimitrios Tyrovolas, PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at AUTH.

The speech by M. Bouras, D. Soudris and D. Tirovolas will be held for the students of the PMS via the internet, and in the context of the course "Advanced Media and Applications in Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Culture" of the "Digital Culture" direction.

Maria Boura is Ericsson's Head of the company's Relations with Government Officials, Regulatory Authorities & Industry Bodies, and Innovation. In addition, he has Sales responsibilities towards the Strategy and Marketing Departments of the providers in Greece and Cyprus.

She began her career in Research & Development, and has since held leadership positions in various functions within the ICT industry, typically serving multiple clients and countries. He speaks 4 languages and has lived and worked in four countries outside of Greece. She is a featured speaker and frequently represents Ericsson at conferences and events here and abroad. In the past he worked at Intracom and at the National Research Center for Natural Sciences "Demokritos". He holds a Degree in Physics (University of Patras) as well as a Master's Degree in Telecommunications (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens).

She is active in promoting more women in leadership positions as well as in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. Since May 2016 she is a co-founder of the international non-profit organization WLH - Women Leadership Hub, while in the past she has been an elected Member of the Board of the Women Managers & Entrepreneurs Development Sector TOGME of EEDE.

Maria Boura is also passionate about startups - she is one of the experts at Metavallon VC, a judge at MITEF and represents Ericsson at the NTUA's hi-tech startup incubator, Invent ICT.

In 2018, she was awarded the "Executive Woman of the Year" award at the 20th InfoCom World Conference, held yesterday in Athens. Ms. Boura was awarded for her professionalism, efficiency and long-term contribution to the Telecommunications & IT market in Greece.

She likes music, dancing, reading and nature. She was born in Athens and is the proud mother of two boys.

 

Dimitrios Soudris received his diploma and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Patras in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He worked as a Lecturer, Adjunct and Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace for thirteen years from 1995 to 2008. Today he works as a Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has published more than 500 papers in international scientific journals and conferences, holds two international patents and his research work has been cited > 4600 times. He is also the author and editor of ten Kluwer and Springer books. He is the Director of the Microcomputers and Digital Systems Project (MicroLab) https://microlab.ntua.gr/.

He is Responsible and Principal Investigator in numerous research projects (> 55) funded by the European Commission, ENIAC-JU, ESA - European Space Agency, GGET and Industry. He has been General Organizer and Program Manager of PATMOS 1999 & 2000, General Organizer of IFIP-VLSI-SOC 2008, PARMA 2011 & 2013 Workshop, General (Co-)Organizer of HiPEAC CSW 2014 and Program Manager of SAMOS 2016. He is also member of technical program committees at several international conferences.

He received an award from INTEL and IBM for the results of his LPGD project #25256 and awards from Int. Conf. VLSI 2005 and ASP-DAC 05 for the results of the AMDREL project IST-2001-34379, HiPEAC award for the work DAC' 10 for the project MNEMEE FP7-216224 and DAC '13 for the work of ENIAC-TOISE-282557-2, DAC'18, DAC'19, DAC'20 and recently by XILINX in OPEN HARDWARE Design Contest 2017, 2019.

He is a member of the IEEE, ACM and HiPEAC organizations.

His research interests focus on the following:

·         Hardware and Software Design of Embedded Systems

·         Low Power VLSI Integrated Circuit Design

·         Edge Computing

·         Methodologies and Design of Digital Processing Applications

·         Field Programmable Architectures (FPGAs)

·         Designing Hardware Accelerators for Space Applications, Data Centers and Cloud Applications

·         Parallel/Contractive Architectures

 

Dimitris Tyrovolas received a diploma from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in 2020. Today he is a PhD student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the Wireless Communications & Information Processing Group - WCIP.

His research interests include wireless communications, digital signal processing and reconfigurable smart surfaces. He is also a reviewer for IEEE Communication Letters and Physical Communications Journal-Elsevier.

He is also working as a research assistant in 1) Research project <ATLAS>: Analysis and development of an automation mechanism for aquaculture processes, while giving the user the opportunity to control aquaculture remotely through IoT technologies and

2) <TERMINET> research project: Providing a new next-generation network reference architecture based on cutting-edge technologies such as low-latency smart IoT devices, oriented to market requirements. Finally, he co-teaches the course "Telecommunications Systems II" within the framework of the Undergraduate Study Program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic School of AUTH.
