Ceremony of the New Graduates of the Postgraduate Program "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Digital Technologies"
In an atmosphere of deep emotion, academic elevation, and celebration, the graduation ceremony for the new alumni of the Postgraduate Program (MSc) "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies" of the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, took place on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The ceremony was held at the Themistokleio Complex of the University of Piraeus, in the presence of the Rectorate Authorities, the Deanery of the School of Information and Communication Technologies, the Chair and faculty members (DEP) of the Department, official guests, as well as numerous relatives and friends of the graduates, who flooded the venue to celebrate their success.
The Culmination of a Creative Journey
The new graduates consist of highly specialized scientists, ready to staff key positions in the growing sector of digital transformation, sustainable urban development, and the promotion of cultural heritage through cutting-edge technologies. During the ceremony, the graduates took the established oath and received their diplomas, sealing a cycle of intensive and demanding studies filled with knowledge, research, and innovation.
Welcome Address by the Director of the MSc
The Director of the MSc, Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados, in his moving address, praised the effort, perseverance, and ethos of the students, emphasizing the importance of the specialization they acquired.
"Today belongs entirely to you. It is the vindication of your hard work and the starting point of a new, bright professional path. You are now ambassadors of an interdisciplinary approach that connects Culture with Technology and Humanity. We are certain that you will excel and contribute substantially to the creation of a better, digitally advanced, and sustainable future," Mr. Vergados noted, among other things.
A Special Moment: Honoring Professor Iosif Stefanou
This year’s ceremony held a special, historical significance for the MSc. In an atmosphere of deep respect and academic recognition, the Program honored the iconic Professor Emeritus of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Iosif N. Stefanou, for his invaluable contribution to the design, establishment, and continuous support of the MSc. The Director, Professor D.D. Vergados, spoke from the heart about the work, foresight, and rare ethos of the Mentor, Iosif N. Stefanou, emphasizing that his presence is a beacon and a legacy for the Program and future generations of scientists. Professor Stefanou was awarded an honorary plaque amid warm applause from the entire hall.
