Participation of the MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Digital Technologies" and the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion" in the International Exhibition BEYOND 2025 on Artificial Intelligence
The MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Digital Technologies" of the University of Piraeus and the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilisation of Cultural Resources", participated in the International Exhibition of Digital Technology and Innovation BEYOND 2025, which took place from 4th to 6th March 2025 at the Metropolitan Expo, with the main theme "AI Reality Bites".
Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados, Director of the Laboratory "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Digital Technologies" and the eponymous Master's Degree Programme of the University of Piraeus - which was awarded the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilisation of Cultural Resources", Chairman of the G. President of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK), participated as keynote speaker at the conference of the exhibition on Saturday 5 April 2025. In the panel entitled "AI in Education - From Classrooms to Code: Preparing for an AI-Enhanced Future", Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados discussed the role of AI in the educational process, emphasizing that technological tools, although important, are not enough on their own. The essential challenge lies in the need to change culture and mindset in order to maximise the benefits of AI for the benefit of the educational community and society as a whole.
The pavilion of the Postgraduate Studies Programme (MSc) "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT & Advanced Digital Technologies", in collaboration with the corresponding Laboratory of the University of Piraeus and the UNESCO Chair "Creative Cities in Motion.
During the exhibition, the pavilion was visited by representatives of the academic and research community, the business world, political figures, public and private sector institutions, as well as leading officials of international organizations, such as Mr. Chengetai N. J. Masango, Head of Office IGF of the United Nations.
The visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the MTF, to learn about the activities of the workshop and to discuss the innovative solutions presented in the field of "smart cities", artificial intelligence, sustainable urban mobility and cultural resource management.
The continuous flow of visitors, the institutional recognition and the strong interest in the Postgraduate Programme and the UNESCO Chair confirm its importance as a reference point in the field of education, technology and culture, both nationally and internationally.
