Guest Lecture by Mr. Simos Georgiou on BIM and HBIM at the MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies
On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, a guest lecture was held by Mr. Simos Georgiou, Architect Engineer, CEO & Global BIM Manager at XIV Services, as part of the course "Urban Design of Digital Cities." The course is offered by the Master of Science (MSc) program "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT, and Advanced Digital Technologies" of the Department of Informatics at the University of Piraeus.
The lecture focused on modern applications of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM), highlighting their role in the design, management, and digital documentation of building and urban infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on the contribution of BIM and HBIM methodologies to the digital transformation of cities, as well as their interconnection with the concepts of Smart Cities and sustainable urban development.
Through the presentation of real-world examples and professional practices, students had the opportunity to learn how BIM technologies are utilized internationally in large-scale projects, enhancing collaboration between different disciplines and optimizing the project life cycle.
This guest lecture is part of the Master’s program's strategy to bridge theoretical training with professional experience and to familiarize students with cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future of digital and sustainable cities.
