On Thursday, December 02, 2021 from 18:00 - 21:00, the guest of the MSc "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies", of the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus, is Mr. Panagiotis Perakis, Lawyer , DEA of information law.

The lecture will be held for MSc students in the context of the Course "Intellectual Property, Personal Data and Regulatory Issues" of the directions "Digital Culture", "Smart Cities and Advanced Digital Technologies" and "Internet of Things (IoT) and Advanced Digital Technologies"».


Brief Biography

Panagiotis Perakis is an Athens lawyer (at the Supreme Court).

He studied law at the Law School of the University of Athens and did post-graduate studies in France, in computer law and legal informatics.

Along with practicing law, for about a decade he was an Advisor to the EU Commission. on legal issues of new information and communication technologies, while he has participated in the legal committees of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) and CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies).

In Greece, he has been a member of Independent Authorities and has participated as President or member in law-making Committees and Working Groups on various issues (functioning of the capital market, modernization of sports legislation, protection of privacy in telecommunications, etc.), while he was the main author of the first draft of the legislative text (law proposal) for the protection of personal data in our country.

He has participated in the writing of two books - collective projects ("Security of Information Systems", "The new sports law") and is a member of the Scientific Council of the Tsatsos Foundation.

He is also a member of the Association of Greek Commercialists, the Hellenic Union for Human Rights, as well as the Greek Section of Amnesty International.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of DSA for a decade, from 2011 to 2020, when he resigned.

Since 2020 he has been elected Vice-President of the official European body of lawyers (Council of Bar Associations of Europe - CCBE), where between 2015-2019 he was President of the Access to Justice Standing Committee.
