Speech by Mr. Pantelis Panos, Director General of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens

On Friday, May 25, 2018 from 18:00 - 21:00 in room A2, 122 Grigoriou Lambrakis, we invite the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Informatics to the lecture by Mr. Pantelis Panos, Director General of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens ( ASKSA), with the theme "Administrative and Cultural Project of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens from 1881 to the present day", which will take place as part of the "Digital Culture" direction, of the "Advanced Informatics Systems" Program, of the Department of Informatics of the University Piraeus.

Mr. Pantelis Panos is the General Director of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (ASKSA). ASKSA was founded in 1881 and is today considered one of the leading centers of scientific research and teaching in the world, dedicated to the study of every aspect of Greek culture of antiquity, but also of the modern era. Its mission is to promote the study of Greek philology, history and archaeology, as well as to carry out excavations and research, including the conservation and restoration of monuments in Greece.

Mr. Pantelis Panos has also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company BIEM AUSTRIA OIL of the Lainopoulos group. Among the companies represented by VIEM are: OMV lubricants, EURO DAEWOO construction machinery, LISTA A.G. storage systems, SIDES S.A. fire trucks, URYU SEISAKI LTD. air tools, MAHLE air compressors and FILIPPINI generators.

He has also been General Manager of the company Eurocopter-Mercedes-BenzUnimog, Authorized Consultant & General Manager of the company PROMOT E.I. LAINOPOULOS AE, Project Scheduling and Costing engineer of the company IOANNOU & PARASKEAIDIS LTD (Athens office), head of the Project Planning and Monitoring Department of the company IOANNOU & PARASKEAIDIS LTD (Onassios Cardiac Surgery Center, Athens), and has also participated in the RABIGH INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT of the company PETROLA - RABIGH OF SAUDI ARABIA.

Mr Pantelis Panos' studies include a Preliminary Polytechnic Diploma and H.N.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Sunderland University of Technology, England, graduating from a year program in Industrial Research and Development, BSc Honors level from Cranfield Institute of Technology, as well as a Master of Science (M.Sc.) "Environment and Energy Conservation" in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Cranfield Institute of Technology.
