Lecture on "Digital Humanities: The Key to Rewriting History?"

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, from 18:00 - 21:00, in room 108, of the Central Building of the University of Piraeus (Karaoli & Dimitriou 80, Piraeus), we invite you to the lecture by Tarek Elemam, IT Manager of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (ASKSA), on the topic "Digital humanities: The key to rewriting history?", which will take place in the context of the "Digital Culture" direction, of the "Advanced Informatics Systems" Program, of the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus .
 
In this lecture, the change of the traditional study of the humanities with the use of technological innovations will be practically presented. Through applications of the American School (presentation of tools, techniques, methods of organization, availability of information, etc.) and their contribution to its work, the necessity of digital humanities will be documented.


Tarek Elemam is a graduate of the University of La Verne, California with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, where he served as a Computer Supervisor during the last three years of his studies. Since 1994, he has been the IT director of the American School of Classics. From 1996 to 2010 he was also an IT consultant for the archaeological institute of Norway in Athens. while in 2013 he was a member of the committee for the rescue of Libyan Heritage in the digital age (World Bank-UNESCO).
