Speech by Panagiotis Rappa, Director, Animator, Illustrator, at the University of Piraeus

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 18:00 – 21:00 in room 108, of the Central Building of the University of Piraeus (Karaoli & Dimitriou 80, Piraeus), in the lecture of Mr. Panagiotis Rappa Director, Animator, Illustrator on the topic "The moving image as a tool for certification and communication", which will take place in the context of the "Digital Culture" direction, of the "Advanced Informatics Systems" Program, of the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus.

Panagiotis Rappas is a director, screenwriter and animator. He was born in Hydra. He studied painting, engraving and animation in Germany. In 1985 he began to work professionally in animation and until 1989 he worked on various animated films for the cinema, in Berlin and Munich, gaining experience in all stages of production.

In 1989 when Steven Spielberg opened the Amblin animation production studio in London, he was one of the first to staff it. He takes part in the studio's productions while also working as a freelance director and animator on various commercials and television series in London's West End.
In 1995 he founded the Stardust Pictures production company in London where he worked as a producer and creative director until 1998. In 1998 he undertook the production of part of the film "1001 Nights" on behalf of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1999 he participated in the Oscar and Bafta nominated animated short film 'The Periwig Maker'. In 1999 he co-founded the production company Time Lapse Pictures in Los Angeles. At the same time he works as a director and Layout Supervisor on the films "Rugrats the Movie" and "Rugrats in Paris", produced by Paramount/Nickelodeon.

In 2000, the production company Time Lapse Pictures Hellas S.A. was created, based in Athens, of which he remained president and Creative Director until 2009. The company had a close collaboration with its namesake in Los Angeles and they undertook the execution of several animated films for the cinema and television. He continues to this day as an independent producer and director working on various animated productions for film, television and the web. His films have won many awards at various international festivals that have participated both in Greece and abroad.

He has also been engaged in designing sets for the Theatre, illustrating children's books and has taught seminars on animated film production. He has also participated in the jury of many festivals abroad. He is a Life Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (A.M.P.A.S.) of the USA.
